Welcome

Heritage Mortuary - The Best Funeral Home in Las Vegas, NV

Heritage Mortuary is the most prominent funeral home in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Our mortuary provides peace of mind through quality and compassionate care.  At Heritage, we believe in serving families with excellence, and it is our pleasure to serve you.

The biggest difference between Heritage and other funeral homes in Las Vegas, NV is the approach we take to funeral planning.  Regardless of age, the death of a loved one can be a trying time for family and friends, as they mourn their loss and begin the healing process.  Instead of focusing on the passing of a person, we choose instead to celebrate the life they lived while they were with us.

When it comes to planning a funeral, there are many important details to consider, from the formality of the pre-burial event, or wake, to the preferred casket and funeral flowers.  We want to help you personalize the funeral service to showcase the unique life of the person it’s being performed for.

The memorial service plays a pivotal role in honoring and celebrating the person’s life, giving friends and family the opportunity to say goodbye, and allowing everyone involved to begin to heal in their own way.

Our Las Vegas funeral home is ready to help you with the funeral arrangements by working with you on each step of the process to customize the perfect program to fit your needs.

Aside from the emotional trauma that the loss of a loved one can create, death tends to bring a great deal of stress about the intricate details of funeral services, the funeral cost, and quotes from various homes and mortuaries.  This is another area where we shine brightly above our competitors.  With years of experience under our belts, we are confident that we can provide you with a memorial service that meets your needs and your budget.  Contact us at (702) 852-1464 to speak with the mortician or one of our friendly team members now.

If you require immediate assistance, please do not hesitate to call.  Our funeral director and our caring staff are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to ensure that we are always available when you need us.

The Job of a Mortician

Mortician, undertaker, and funeral director all refer to the same person, who aids in the planning of funeral services for the deceased.  They play a multitude of important roles in the planning process from coordinating the collection of necessary legal documentation to customizing services to meet the needs of the family of the deceased.  This position requires a person who is detail-oriented, caring, compassionate, and patient.  At Heritage, we are lucky to have that leader with us.  Trust in our team to plan a funeral that will honor the deceased and that will not be forgotten.

The Casket

A casket is a long encasement created for the purpose of burying the deceased.  Like anything that can be purchased, the quality and features of it can be heavily customized, which of course affects its price.  Caskets come in a variety of materials, such as bronze, copper, fiberglass, metal, steel, and wood, with each material having a different rate of decomposition when buried beneath the ground.  Some encasements have even been made waterproof.  The average casket is 2 feet in width, and the length varies depending on the person it is for.  The current cultural trend is shifting toward increased width, for more internal space.  On the outside, most will have multiple handles so it can be transported more easily before and after the wake, funeral service, and burial.  In the market, casket prices vary significantly, starting around $1,000 for a basic encasement to upwards of $30,000 or more for premium, high end models.  While there are many options, most people choose a middle-of-the-road casket for a few thousand dollars.

The Wake

A wake is a vigil that is held for someone who has passed away, typically next to the body of the deceased.  This gives friends and family a chance to remember their lost loved one and comfort each other during a difficult time. In the past, wakes occurred at the home of the person who died, but in recent years, cultural changes have shifted this gathering to mortuaries or funeral homes instead, which tend to be in central locations. The wake typically takes place on the day before a funeral or directly after the service is performed.  Religion tends to influence many elements of the wake, but as mentioned above, there are many different ways that you can create an experience as unique as the person its being performed for.  The formality of the event is a key item to consider.  Will you have a formal, structured program or an informal one, where you simply invite friends and family to a social gathering in remembrance of the deceased.  How many people will you invite?  Will the casket be open or closed?  Will you have soothing music or flowers at the event?  Each component of the wake should be considered to ensure a smooth event.

The Funeral Service

A funeral service is an event held to remember and pass on the life of a lost loved one.  There are many things to take into consideration.  Please see the below list for some of the key questions to consider:

Will you choose a funeral or a memorial service?

Despite providing the same benefit to attendees, a funeral service keeps the body of the deceased nearby, while a memorial service does not.  There is a significant distinction here and this is one of the first decisions that needs to be made prior to holding the event.  For your reference, funeral services are more common.

Where will the funeral ceremony be held?

Most funeral services are held in a church, but they do not have to be.  Some patrons opt to hold the ceremony at the gravesite in the cemetery, prior to burial.

Who will lead the ceremony?

Many times, this is a matter of preference, unless dictated by your faith.  Will the service be led by a minister, a priest, a rabbi, or someone else.

Does your religion follow particular customs regarding the funeral service?

Each faith maintains different guidelines and rules on the performance of funeral services.

Will a eulogy be given?

A eulogy is a speech typically given after someone dies in tribute to their life, accomplishments, and memory.

Will music be played?

This is a matter of preference.  Some people choose to play light music to set a particular mood, while others prefer silence.

Will prayers or poems be read?

Prayers are a dignified request for help that are often read during the funeral service to ease the pain of loss and aid comforting of the family and friends of the deceased.  Prayers or poems can be read by anyone from the attendees of the event to the leader of the service.
