What is Grief?

Grief in the funeral sense is the response you have to physically losing that someone special who has always been there for you. In short, it is the loss of someone or something that has passes away. Even though the term is used interchangeably with bereavement. Bereavement is the state of loss while grief is the reaction to the loss.

Grief is a natural emotion that follows death. It hurts and it is full of sadness. Some of grief's symptoms are emotions are denial, guilt, physical discomfort, and sleeplessness. It is like an open wound, which must become healed. At times, it seems as if the healing will never happen. While some of life's spontaneity begins to return, it never seems to get back to the way it was.

The death of a loved one is one of life's most painful event. Yet even today, people's reactions to death remains to be one of society's least understood and most off-limits topics for discussion. Oftentimes, grievers are left totally alone in dealing with their pain, loneliness, and isolation.

Why would a mortuary care about your quality of life and what keeps you living healthier and longer? Why would it matter how your family is carrying on after you are gone? It appears to be a contradiction in what mortuaries are known for doesn't it?

Heritage pledges that when you grieve that you don't have to do it alone. We are here for you!  At Heritage Mortuary, we care enough to share valuable information and resources that assist in providing a holistic and a healthier life. In addition, we care about preserving the legacy of the life of those we honor. Our life wellness seminars, pre-need planning, quality funeral services, and grief counseling are some of the services we provide free of charge, because we care.

Healing is a process of allowing yourself to feel, experience, and accept the pain. In other words, as you give yourself permission to heal...You allow yourself the opportunity to accept all your feelings and to begin your grief process.

The healing process consists of two parts. One, is a safe, loving, professionally guided atmosphere in which to express your feelings. The other is knowing how and what to communicate. There is only one rule...Be True To Yourself!
